Northants Now is a new podcast series from Northamptonshire County Council and Public Health Northamptonshire. Each episode offers advice and support on a range of public health and wellbeing issues for Northamptonshire residents.
Over the course of the series, episodes will cover some of the main topics currently at the forefront of the local communities and will celebrate some of the best things about Northamptonshire. This gives people the opportunity to hear about things occurring in their community that they otherwise may have missed.
Four podcasts are now live and proving to be very popular with more new podcasts coming soon. The podcasts are being shared across all social media channels and are receiving great feedback.
Gareth Evans, the narrator of each episode, has been the host of Smooth Breakfast for six years. Before this Gareth could be heard on BBC Local and Network shows where he was described as "a warm empathic interviewer who lets guests talk but also leads conversations so that guests give the best of themselves".
The first Northants Now podcast discusses the current lockdown, examining what our special guests and their organisations are doing and why. Joining Gareth Evans in this episode are representatives from Northants Police, Northamptonshire Adult Social Services and Public Health Northamptonshire.
The second episodes' focus is on the local businesses in the county. It explores how lockdown is affecting businesses and the support that is available to them.
Lateral flow device testing is the topic of the third podcast. In this episode we discuss COVID-19 community testing. A new locally-led testing service has been set up to test people without COVID-19 symptoms (asymptomatic testing) in Northamptonshire using lateral flow device (LFD) testing. Gareth Evans discovers how it works, the aim of this testing, and how businesses across the county are already getting involved.
And finally episode four, which launched last week, celebrates the wonderful people across Northamptonshire who have been awarded with the Rose of Northamptonshire, a special award which recognises the part people have played in supporting others throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Councillor Ian Morris, County Council cabinet member for Public Health and Adult social care, said:
These days more and more people are listening to podcasts so we thought it was the ideal platform to go into depth about some of the major issues concerning Covid-19 in the county.
We are pleased with the positive feedback being received for each episode and hope that more people continue to benefit from the topics being discussed".
